Theory of Machine

Laboratory Incharge:
Prof. Snehal. S. Patel
Email:  sspatel.mech@srpec.org

Major Equipment:

  • • Loaded Governor Model
  • • Portal Governor Model
  • • Hartnell Governor Model
  • • Watt Governor Model
  • • Motorized Gyroscope (Rotor dia. 300 mm) Without Tachometer
  • • Influence of Inertia upon Velocity & Acceleration

Experiments to be Performed:

Mechanical engineers design, analyze, and manufacture new products and technologies. Theory of machines is a design-oriented subject which addresses the kinematics and dynamics of mechanisms with applications to linkage systems, reciprocating engines, automobile parts and industrial machinery. This lab transforms their basic theory knowledge into the practical approach.

  • • Overviews of theory of machine
  • • Gyroscopic behavior of a spinning rotor
  • • Moment of inertia of irregular shaped bodies using bifilar suspension
  • • Moment of inertia of irregular bodies using trifilar suspension
  • • Study of characteristics curves of different governors
  • • Synthesis of mechanisms
  • • Study of mechanical brakes
  • • Study of dynamometers
  • • Inertia forces in reciprocating parts
  • • Study of flywheels
